BoardBite (boardbite.online) is a website for playing board games in your browser. This page explains what we store about you, why, and what you can do about it.
What we store
- Your account: your username, and either your password (only a scrypt hash of it, never the password itself) or, if you log in with Google, your Google account ID.
- Your profile: gems, unlocked and equipped cosmetics, settings, and the YouTube clips you chose as country anthems (the video ID and start and end times).
- Purchases: the gem packs you buy (which pack, the amount, the date, Stripe's reference for the payment, whether it was paid or refunded, and when you agreed to receive the gems right away), and what you spent gems on.
- Friends: your friends list and friend requests. Your friends can see when you're online. Table invites are kept in memory only, for at most 30 minutes.
- Online games: the tables you create or join, with the players and the moves made in them.
- Cookies: a login cookie (
dh_session) keeps you logged in for 30 days. We store only a hash of it. During Google sign-in, two short-lived cookies (up to 15 minutes) keep the sign-in secure. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies. - On your own device: your browser's local storage keeps your same-screen game save and some preferences. This never leaves your device.
We use this data only to run the site: to log you in, save your profile, run your games and handle your purchases. We don't sell it or use it for advertising, and we only share it with the services listed below as far as they need it.
Log in with Google
If you choose “Continue with Google”, Google sends us your Google account ID and your name. We store the account ID so we can recognise you next time. Your name is only used to suggest a username and is not stored. We don't receive your email address, contacts or anything else from your Google account. What happens on Google's side is covered by Google's privacy policy.
Other services the site uses
- YouTube: country anthems play in YouTube's embedded player, and clip thumbnails load from YouTube. YouTube may set cookies and show ads under its own privacy policy. This only happens where anthems are used.
- Payments: gem packs are paid on Stripe's checkout page. You enter your payment details with Stripe, not with us, and we never see your card or bank details. We tell Stripe your account ID and username and which pack you're buying, and Stripe tells us whether the payment went through. Stripe handles your payment details under its own privacy policy.
Technical data
To limit login attempts, the server keeps your IP address in memory for a short time (about an hour at most). It isn't written to disk. The server keeps an error log to fix bugs, but it doesn't record which pages you visit.
How long we keep it
- Your account and profile: until you delete your account.
- Payment records: as long as tax law requires us to keep them, even if you delete your account. They're then linked only to an anonymous account number, not to your username. Stripe keeps its own record of the payment, including the username you had when you paid.
- Login sessions: 30 days, or until you log out.
- Online tables: deleted after a day without activity for lobbies and finished games, and after 14 days for games still running.
Your rights
You can delete your account yourself: click your username at the top of the site and choose Delete account. Your username, password, Google account ID, profile, gems, unlocks and friends are deleted right away. Online games that already started carry on with the computer playing your seat, still under your old name, until the table is removed (see above). You can also ask us to show you or correct the data we have about you: email us and tell us your username. If you log in with Google, you can also remove BoardBite's access at any time in your Google account settings. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If what we store changes, we'll update this page. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
